filmotype is a modern sans serif typeface invented by graphic designer, brochure and package designer Uwe Steller and released by Fil Type in 2016. The name ‘filmotype’ was inspired by the structured layout of each character.
The bold serif design of Akzidenz Grotesk started out as a headline font for photocopying, spreading around a combination of narrow and midwidth strokes; a unique style of Klingspor, and inspiration from the traditional Russian font Милен (Milyen). Filmotype is an upsized version, with the same uniform lay-out as Akzidenz, but slightly more refined and skillful strokes, as well as new Archaic Standard Ligatures.
Initially designed in the early-to-mid 1950s, Filmotype Fashion picks up where Futura left off but with a looser take on a geometric design and drawn wider to capture a more sophisticated 1960s visual aesthetic yet it retains a classic and timeless feel.Remastered and expanded with exacting precision from the original filmstrips, Filmotype Fashion includes a full international character compliment, automatic fractionals, ordinals, and a suite of alternates in dynamic OpenType format.
